Pleasant Valley Wine Company
Visit the oldest winery in the Finger Lakes region. Founded in 1860 by Charles Davenport Champlin and 12 local businessmen Pleasant Valley Wine Company quickly grew to international renown when, in 1867, the winery won its first European award for its sparkling wine. After being declared to have “the great champagne of the Western world,” by Boston wine connoisseur Marshal P. Wilder in 1871 the champagne was dubbed “Great Western,” giving rise to the popularly known name for the winery, the Great Western Winery. Today you can visit the winery for tastings and tours of the original 1860s buildings, as well as see exhibits and displays about winemaking.
